Civil Twilight

Tulsa

Taken roughly around civil twilight during a visit to Tulsa, OK on March 6-7, 2021, these photos are part of a larger exploration of the perceptual elements that make up space and place.

This page explores how the different materials we use to record a space can affect our perceptions of it. Each picture has two versions: an iPhone version and a Holga version taken a few moments apart. The colors palettes are drawn from each photo and put next to each other to show how different mediums can record the same scene in subtly different ways. The gradient in the back is made from the dark, medium, and light tones pulled from each photo.

The accompanying soundtrack is a binaural recording taken during the photoshoot with additional elements added through generative modular synthesis. Headphones recommended.
